We went on a river tour of the Myakka River

Wow! We had a great time on our 1 hour tour down the Myakka River! Set your GPS to Snook Haven which is the restaurant and camp ground destination. Logan River Tours is right there too. Its a good idea to call ahead and make a reservation for the river tour to save your spot. When you get there its time to pay. Calling ahead is also a good idea because the river may be too low for the tour to happen. I’d hate to do an hour drive and then be told to turn around and go back! But while you’re there, be sure to check out the Snook Haven Restaurant for some good BBQ and live music. OK, here we go!
We arrived before the restaurant was open and it was a Friday. We went there once before on a Saturday and the place was packed. So if you like easy access and not waiting around for food and drink, go during the week. If you’re into people watching, go on the weekend and you’ll get an eyeful!
The boat was ready to go at 11:30am sharp. It was really windy and a little cool. I’m glad I was wearing my sweatshirt! My wife was bundled up in layers and was quite happy. She needed all those layers! We saw a lot of wildlife! Birds, turtles and a lot of alligators. Some alligators slipped into the water as we got close, but a lot of others were soaking up the warmth of the sun and didn’t move an inch.
So, you get the idea, right? Wildlife everywhere! I’ve been to Six Mile Cypress Slough a few timew and once I only saw butterflies, which I took a lot of pictures of! I wish I had brought my big Nikon camera with, with the telepohoto lens, but I forgot! So these pics are from my Samsung smartphone mostly using the zoom at 10x. So sorry for some of pics being blurry. We got back to dock in about an hour and the restaurant was open and there waas a band playing music.
Everything was delicious and especially those desserts. A Brownie and Peach Cobbler. This trip makes for a great family outing or a date with your significant other. We met old firends from up north and it was a great place to catch up! I heard rumors that in a hundred days or so, the place will be shut down, torn down and rebuilt. Probably timed with the end of “the season”. So hurry up and enjoy!
