The Festival
Four of us went to the Sugar Festival in Clewiston a couple of weeks ago. If you didn’t make it there this year, be sure to mark your calendars for early March next year because it was fantastic! We went on Friday night, so the only thing we missed was the classic car show which was going to take place on Saturday. We did see a 57 Chevy though and some old tractors and a sugar cane harvester machine which was very big and impressive. I don’t know why I didn’t take a picture of that? Sorry! Did you know that Lamborghini and Porsche made tractors? They do, or did anyway! Also, for some reason on Friday night a lot of food trucks weren’t open for business, but there were enough to keep you from going hungry. That’s the only thing you had to pay for, the food and drink. Although you could bring your own coolers and food if you wanted to. We just brought our beach chairs to sit in while watching the concerts.

The Festival Grounds
Lots of room to sit and picnic. Lots of people brought pop up tents. They set those up in the back so as not to block the view of the stage. for people in chairs and on blankets on the ground. They had a big screen TV to the right of the stage so you could see the performers better. There were an estimated 10,000 people there on Friday night and over 25,000 people on Saturday night. When they music was over we gathered up our stuff and headed to the car while the fireworks show was underway, so we got out of there relatively quickly and easily.
The Music
When the music started it was exactly as I suspected. It was a Fleetwood Mac cover band. They were a little iffy when they started out, but got warmed up and were really good towards the end. But they were a cover band. I’ve gone to a lot of concerts in my day and there is nothing like the actual band playing their own music. I asked about the second band and the people I was with said “its the guitarist from the Eagles”. Now I’ve seen a band called the Guess Who that had a lot of hits in the 60s. I saw them in the 80s or early 90s and by that time there was only one original band member left, which was the bass player or the drummer. I can’t remember. But they sounded like a cover band. Not very tight and definitely sounded different from the original. So I thought that’s what this was going to be with some guitarist who was with the band over a weekend.
It was Don Felder who spent over 20 years with the Eagles and wrote many of their hits! He introduced the other members of the band he had with him and they all had very impressive pedigrees! They all played with various music icons in a lot of different genres. They were tight! Professional! It was a good night for music! I thoroughly enjoyed the show! To me it was as an original Eagles concert could be. Fantastic! See you there next year!
