Visiting St. Augustine, Florida

We used to have an all-electric Hyndai Ionic 5. I was leery about taking any extended road trips because the most electric miles we got on the car was in the high 200s. So I didn’t want to be running out of charge and then have to look for a charging station and then wait and hour to get charged back up. So after several problems with the car we traded it in and went back to gas. We bought a Toyota Rav4 Plugin Hybrid. So there’s still some electric involved which gives us 50 miles of electricity and a 12-gallon tank which gives us another 450 miles of range. So every day we start out with a 500-mile range and filling up at a regular gas stations is no problem. So off to St. Augustine which is about 350 to 400 miles away.

I went up 27 to I-5 and took that to I-95. So I went right through Orlando. Lots of construction and traffic up the wazoo. Coming back this way wasn’t too bad because the construction on the westbound lanes is a lot less. But the stop lights and traffic on 27 was getting to me. Next time doing a trip I will try to stay on interstates that aren’t under massive construction. I know. Good luck with that! And one more thing. If I ever go on a trip in summer, I’m going to go to a cooler place, like Alaska! It was hot In St. Augustine in July! Take a look through the slide shows. Lots of pics.

I thought the Drunken Horse restaurant was the best. But Harry’s and River and Fort were excellent too. The Prohibition Kitchen has great burgers. And there’s a pizza by the slice place in the main drag of tourist section that’s pretty good. There’s a trolley that goes around town. You pay a set price and then can get on and off all day long. Its a tour trolley, so they are taking you to different tourist attractions like Ripley’s Believe It or Not, a brewery, the oldest house, etc, etc. Be careful because when it gets late in the afternoon they stop running and you don’t want to be way out of town, like a the brewery, and then not have a ride back. We hopped on and off a couple times and we were good. We drove our car the rest of the time. Sometimes you can find a parking space and sometimes you can’t. There are parking lots that charge you $10 to $20 to park there..
