We had our great niece in from Las Vegas this past week and since it was cold out (50 degrees) we decided to do some indoor sightseeing. So we went to The Baker Museum in Naples to get cultured! When my wife and I lived in Chicago we enjoyed the many museums they had there. When we moved to Sedona if you needed an art fix, we would visit the many art galleries in and around town. In Ft Myers, there’s the downtown art walk, the museum downtown and various art shows around the area, but the Baker Museum is world class. We were there several years ago before we moved here full time. I don’t remember so many guards stationed all over the place. It kind of makes you self-conscious when contemplating a piece of art for an hour and a half. Just kidding! Five minutes tops, but still…

Here’s a link to their website. This campus also houses the philharmonic building, so lots going on here. Diana Krall is making an appearance soon. That would have been interesting to see and hear. Here’s some pics. That’s Chihuly glass art hanging in the 3 story atrium of the main building. There’s a video at the end of a Chihuly glass art ceiling. I hope the video plays! Check it out.

Check out the slideshow…

Another Chihuly glass sculpture in the philharmonic building.

Some outside shots…

After getting overdosed on culture, we headed to the USS Nemo for lunch which will be a separate post. We also went shopping and then headed back home at 4pm on a Friday. This is a pic of the traffic which looks like, and is, an endless line of stop and go traffic. Let’s just say I really enjoyed the museum, eating at USS Nemo and spending time with our beautiful great nice from Las Vegas!

  1. We went there on the 10th primarily for the Tamara de Lempicka exhibit, but we were happily surprised to the pieces in the permanent collection along with the other visiting collections like the glass and ceramics exhibit on the 2nd floor. Also, definitely worth going across the courtyard to Hayes Hall to see the giant Red Chihuly chandelier and the other exhibits on display.

  2. Thanks for the reminder!! The ceiling was being cleaned when I went there so I missed it!!
