A little while ago someone posted on our Facebook group page about a lot of missing ADA (American Disabilities Act) sidewalk warning platforms. I don’t know exactly what you call them, but they’re those yellow metal platforms that would tell a blind person that you are coming to a street, so stay alert! And it would be nice if there was a cross walk painted on the street and a matching yellow platform on the other side of the street. We have some that meet all the parameters, but there are a lot that need some help or are totally missing. I walk around Hampton Lakes quite a bit, so I thought I’d take some pictures to document the problems. (You know, you need proof when reporting a problem) So here we go!
Please note, I’ve sent an email with a link to this post to our HOA manager.
This pic is on East Hampton Circle by Passion Vine. Notice, we got one yellow thing on one side and not on the other. And the cross walk needs some touching up because of the pothole patches.

The bottom pic is on Rosemallow and Passion Vine. There are no yellow things and the crosswalk lines are way out of line! How’d that happen?

The bottom pic is at the end of East Hampton Circle by the back gates. No yellow thingies.

The bottom pic is East Hampton Circle and Wild Sage. No yellow thingies.

The bottom pic is Wild Sage where it comes in to Bacopa, No yellow thingies, but would you install one in somebody’s driveway? Or change the direction of the crosswalk to either side of the driveway. But then you have to put in a chunk of sidewalk.

The bottom pic is where Bacopa comes in to East Hampton Circle. Nice try on the yellow thing, but needs to be closer to the street. And where does the crosswalk go to? Looks like you need to put in a chunk of sidewalk in the parkway with a yellow thing on top. Also, crosswalk lines.

The bottom pice is East Hampton Circle and Palmeto Prarie. Needs yellow things, crosswalk paint and someplace on the near side of the street to put the yellow thing. Not on the guy’s driveway.

The bottom pic is Mistflower and East Hampton Circle. No yellow things or crosswalk paint. And where to put the crosswalk thing on the near side? Not in a driveway, right?

The bottom pics are at Hampton Blvd and East Hampton Circle. The yellow things are good. Notice how they are cut to fit the curve. However, no crosswalk lines.

The bottom pic is Rain Lilly and Rosemallow on the south side. No yellow things.

The bottom pic is Passion Vine and Rosemallow. Looks good! Maybe freshen up the paint when you paint the rest?

Well that’s all the intersections I walk by. I might have missed some? But maybe, when, or should I say if, the people come along to fix it up, they might take a little drive around to see if there’s any more work to do!? Just saying.
By the way, I’ve moved off of substack and have resurrected HamptonLakesHerald.com. If you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe to get emails of new posts. Also, I have an events calendar out there that I am trying to put community events on that are special events that are not everyday events like bingo or bible study that are on the crowded calendar that the HOA has. You can also subscribe to the calendar to get notified when I add an event. I am in the process of loading up archive content that includes restaurant reviews, things to do and HOA talk. So be sure to take a look. Its all absolutely free and ad free, so its a no hassle website! Happy to help out the community! Looking to put a list of residents that have businesses out there, so if you have a business send me an email with your story and pics to harry@hamptonlakesherald.com See you around town!

Good job Thanks for the effort and caring! Jim Sickels
Keep up the good work Harry. Having had been in construction supervision for 20yrs, how did the developer get by with it. Who inspected-QC for the developer? County inspections ?
The last picture (Passion Vine & Rosemallow )
The contractor left a board with a protrusion of nails behind after they poured the sidewalk, I tripped and fell, the nail ripped my Ugg boot and I had quite a nasty bruise on my knee . I was reimbursed for my Ugg boots and I made it my mission to get the sidewalk brought up to code.
Suggestion: Send the pictures and your description to the ADA website.
