Restaurant Review

Expensive! When we sat down we were told that tonight’s special was halibut for $54. Well, OK then! I think that’s all we were told, no description. And we didn’t ask about it when the waiter came back because nobody was going to pay that much for a piece of halibut. Maybe lobster or a surf and turf. I know halibut is a more expensive fish, but if I’m paying $54 for a maybe 6 ounce piece, that means they’re getting $162 for one pound of halibut. A normal restaurant has a 30% food cost, so that one pound of halibut is costing the restaurant $48. I don’t think so!

This location is by the Top Golf place by Colonial and I-75 which is off the beaten path. You can see the restaurant from Colonial, but to get there you have to go down Six Mile Cypress to Top Golf Drive or something like that and come around from the back side. But with today’s GPS directions you’ll have no problem getting there. There just won’t be anybody pulling in on the spur of the moment because nobody is just driving by. I kind of think this is why the place was empty when we arrived and there still wasn’t meany people there when we left. Plus, its expensive!

So was the food good. You’ll pay big bucks for good food, right? 🙂 The Lobster Bisque was worth every penny of the $13 I paid for it! Best Lobster Bisque I’ve had in a long time! And it had a couple of pretty big chunks of lobster sitting on top. Creamy, great flavor and enough body to keep the lobster floating on top. I was just at another restaurant and had Lobster Bisque, but it was watery, the flavor was off and what lobster there was was sitting on the bottom of the cup. So excellent Lobster Bisque at Oar & Iron!

I had the Fish and Chips for my entree. It was OK. The slaw that came with it was the star of the plate. Delicious slaw! The fish was OK. The batter on the fish was ok, but it could have been a little lighter, like a tempura style, but that’s just me. I ate it all. My wife ordered a pasta with chicken. The pasta was bucatini which is like a thicker spaghetti that’s hollow! Never had that before. The sauce was kind of bland. So much so, that when my wife was asked if she wanted to take what she didn’t eat home, she said no. I was shocked! I jumped in and said “we’ll take it home”. I looked to my wife and said “I’ll fix it”, and I did. Had another meal from it!

Lorraine, the wife of the other couple ordered the same pasta, and her husband, Chris, ordered a Wings appetizer with the sauce on the side. I don’t think Chris was impressed?! We did have a Molten Lava Cake for dessert, which was excellent. Anyway, that’s pretty much it. If you want bread, that’s $10. If you want a glass of water, that’s $2. There will be a lot of restaurants to go to before I’ll be back at this one. If you’d like to look at their website, click this link.
