Restaurant Review – U-Yee Sushi & Grill

I haven’t eaten much sushi in my life, but I’ve been getting more into it lately. The people I know who love sushi say this place is pretty good to excellent and I have to agree, it was darn good! I’ve been eating Paleo lately, so going out was going to be a challenge to that diet. I ended up eating some rice and breaded, deep fried foods and I had a glass of wine. That’s all within the 80/20 rule, so just a little blip on the radar screen! They don’t have a full liquor license, so no mixed drinks. But that’s ok! I think the next time I go I’ll just do unsweetened ice tea.

We started out with some appetizers. I did the calamari and my wife got the spring rolls. If you notice in the pics the dipping sauce is the same. The other couple we were with got the Edamame and a roll that you would get for free if you sit at the sushi counter (which I really liked). The calamari and spring rolls were nothing to write home about, so I wouldn’t do those again. I would just get another kind of roll next time!

You know the old saying, “you eat with your eyes first”. Well, all the food had excellent presentations even with edible flowers. I didn’t eat the flowers, I think they were orchids. I used these too in my restaurants, but I really don’t think they have any flavor, but they sure are pretty! I had a roll with a cooked soft shell crab and a raw roll with tuna. Both on the same plate, again very pretty presentation.

My wife got and shrimp skewer appetizer and a small salad as her entree. Playing it safe!

Everyone enjoyed the food and wine. The ambiance is nice. There were a few kids and loud shrieks every now and then, but at least no babies crying the whole time we were there! Our waitress was from China and spoke pretty good English, but a little hard to understand at times. She said her name was Megan! OK. Megan was very nice. The place got packed and she was running around a lot, but she kept her cool and always had a smile on her face.

So, all in all a good place to eat. Even if you’re not into sushi, they have plenty of cooked foods to eat including tempura and grilled items. Check it out. Its a quick ride down 31 to Babcock Ranch. Its in one of the out buildings in front of the new Publix down there.
