Restaurant Review – The Caloosa Grill in River Hall

River Hall and Hampton Lakes residents get plenty of emails about the all you can eat Prime Rib on Wednesday nights and the all you can eat Fish Fry on Friday nights. I’ve tried them both and they’re good. Price is right for what you get. Its $24 per person for the prime rib and $15 per person for the fish.Make a reservation in season. The prime rib is on a buffet. If the prime rib is too rare for you, which is the way they cook it, you can have the carver dunk it in the hot au jus to cook it a little more. The problem with buffets though is the other items usually end up getting overcooked or sometime they aren’t very hot. The problem with the fish and chips is you have to catch the eye of your server (who are generally great) to get more fish. Then you get one piece of fish on a plate. I asked for more tartar sauce and got it. I don’t know if you can ask for more fries or coleslaw. So I ate 3 pieces of fish. You get two to start out. I could have eaten more, but I didn’t want to seem like a pig! Like I said everything is good, but I don’t think going out of your way good. There was this restaurant in Sedona and they had the best fish and chips. I’d go out of my way for that one.

The other items on the menu are pretty good bar food and include some nice sandwiches. My wife had the Beef Tenderloin Sliders when I had the fish and chips. They were good, but need something to kick it up a notch. More aioli, more caramelized onions, more juiciness! They were kind of on the dry side. The fresh made potato chips were ok. My wife ate them all, but I thought they were a little too thick and over done. I had the seafood chowder and that was pretty good. There’s also some happy hour specials like $5 Margeritas and Cosmos. Its all good and because its so convenient they’ll get my business every now and then. Click here to go to their menu.
