Restaurant Review – Deep Lagoon Ft Myers

This restaurant has four locations with the closest one to us being in Ft Myers at 14040 McGregor Blvd. So a good 35 to 40 minute drive from Alva. Longer when all the snowbirds get back! So is it worth the drive? I think so. I’m not going everyday, but once in a while is fine.

Its a seafood place! They actually have a retail counter by the front door if you feel like cooking at home! I didn’t check out the prices of the raw fish to go, so sorry about that. I don’t think any of us are going to drive down there to buy fish. But I can see if you’re eating there and want something for later in the week, why not?

We went on a Wednesday and got there around 5:30pm. We had reservations, but there were lots of open tables. It was the last day for the special 3 course menu for $29 per person and that’s what we all ordered from.

We started out with a round of drinks (of course). They had $2 Margaritas which the ladies had. I ordered a $13 Mai Tai. My Mai Tai was good, but the $2 Margaritas were fantastic! Later my wife ordered a glass of wine using their computer tablet.

We ordered 2 Triple Tails and 2 Salmon entrees. To start I had the Lobster Bisque and that was delicious. My Triple Tail was a nice mild white fish served atop rice with asparagus. The Cedar Plank Salmon looked nice and came with a big ball of mashed sweet potatoes and sauteed veggies. They said the salmon was organic farm raised in the Pacific Ocean. I won’t eat any farm raised salmon, but my wife seemed to enjoy it. How can it be organic? They have to feed them red dye to get their flesh pink. There’s all kinds of disease in those farms, so no antibiotics? No chemicals? I don’t know. If its not wild salmon, I’m not eating it. I’ll eat farm raised catfish or trout, maybe talapia, but not salmon. There’s so much wild, fresh fish available in Florida why eat farm raised salmon? OK, that’s enough preaching. Everybody enjoyed the food (including the salmon). The only problem we had was that our desserts arrived while we were still eating our entrees! Not that big a deal, but just a little annoying.

I had a Pineapple Upside Down Cake and my wife had the Key Lime Pie. Both excellent! So, all in all, a pretty good place. They’ve got some happy hour deals going out earlier in the day. There were some families with little babies and some kids. A big bar center stage, so lots to look at and it was right on the water. Watched a nice sunset through the heavy screens.
