Restaurant Review – Connor’s Steakhouse

We went to Connor’s Steakhouse for lunch a while back and gave it a pretty good review. You can check that review out by clicking here. So we thought we’d go back and check it out for dinner and we were kind of disappointed. When I saw the Prime Rib Sandwich one of us ordered for lunch, I thought, man, dinner Prime Rib has got to be fantastic. Check it out, the picture on the left is the prime rib sandwich for lunch and the picture on the right is my prime rib dinner for $40. I ordered it medium rare to medium and as you can see, its quite rare. I can kick myself for not complaining, but I wasn’t in a complaining mood (imagine that!)! So I ate about a third of it and took the rest home. It made a good steak and eggs for breakfast the next day.

I had a baked potato with sour cream and the white cheddar mac and cheese. That’s the best mac and cheese I’ve ever had. We all had dinner salads which we all liked, but that’s about it. There were a couple of coffee rubbed steaks served with a coffee demi glace. They were ok. The fourth dish was a rib eye and that was gone in a flash, so something good happened there. Nobody felt like desserts.

When we were seated and our waiter showed up, he announced he was new and to bear with him. Maybe that’s what set the mood, I don’t know?! But anyway, there were lots of problems. He would disappear for long stretches of time. As far as we could tell he had our table and the two on either side of us. I doubt management would have given him tables outside, but you never know. So he gave us our bread and butter pretty fast and took our drink order. And disappeared. He came back to take our dinner order. He should have taken the ladies’ orders first, but didn’t. He went away to put the order in and some time later came back with our drinks. Again, he served the guys first! And then he disappeared.

Our salads arrived and they were nice. Everybody liked their salad. They were delivered by the food runners, not our waiter. He has much more important things to do wherever he is. I had bleu cheese dressing and it was good. So we’re all done with our salads and here come our entrees, again delivered by the food runners. But guess what? Our salad plates were still on the table! Who is suppose to clear the plates? Bus people? The waiter? I don’t know. Apparently not the food runners because they didn’t take any of the salad plates away! We just had to smush things around to fit all the plates on the table. When our waiter finally showed up, he took the salad plates away.

So as I said earlier, everything was received with a lackluster response. My wife got up to go to the washroom. It took her a while because she apparently complained to the manager a long the way. He came over and asked if everything was ok and the three of us said “everything was fine”. We didn’t know my wife had complained to him! Anyway, we’ll try it again for lunch. But if I’m in the mood for Prime Rib, I’ll go to Blossom and Brie. They have the best prime rib I’ve had here while living here in southwest Florida for the past 3 years.

BTW, my wife and I were in the restaurant biz for 25 years and we would hate it when somebody didn’t like something, didn’t tell us while they were there, and then mentioned it in a review when we couldn’t do anything about it. And here I am doing the same thing! I’m sure if I complained they would have given me a different cut of prime rib. They did give my wife a gift card. And guess what? The place was packed! There were hundreds of people there, so they must be doing something right! Give it a try and let me know what you think! Hopefully by that time, the waiter will be well experienced!
